9/21/24 Tree of Life Mama’s Carnivore Chronicles #5: This Woman Cured Her Plantar Fasciitis By Eating Only Sardines for 98 Days! Bonus: She Lost 35 More Lbs After Losing a Lot Then Hitting a Stall and Even Gaining as a Carnivore

It’s been almost a year since I shared a Carnivore Chronicle! It’s high time I did another one. Go here for the previous ones. Carnivore Chronicles is my series of stories about people eating the carnivore (all meat) diet. All of them have amazing results!

I just love this woman’s story. Her name is Jane Crummet. She weighed 240lbs and had so much pain in her feet from plantar fasciitis that she could hardly walk. She was taking cortisol shots and anti-inflammatory drugs. The doctor told her that surgery was the next step. She didn’t want that. So she started the carnivore diet to lose weight, thinking that would help. It did! She lost weight and the PF. Hooray! Then she hit a weight loss stall for two years, at 175 lbs. Then she gained 20 lbs back and the PF came back as well, even though she was still doing carnivore. She was a strict carnivore, eating only beef and no dairy, which is allowed on carnivore but not if you are strictly eating just meat. She eventually recognized that she was addicted to volume eating, even when eating carnivore, so she decided to do Dr. Annette Bosworth’s sardine challenge to deal with that. It’s hard to eat too much volume of sardines! As of the filming of this video, which was done in the past few weeks, she was on Day 98 of her sardine fast. She started May 28, 2024. Except for eating brisket while traveling through TX for two days, Jane has only eaten sardines since then. Her sardine fast healed the plantar fasciitis, and bonus, she lost 35 more lbs! She says she has more energy, she can keep her job that she loves which requires her to walk 10 miles a day, and she feels wonderful. Watch/hear her story below.

I’m telling you, if you have any type of symptom related to insulin resistance, which you can see in the image below, the carnivore diet may be for you. That’s because carnivore diet can be the keto diet, which Dr. Boz promotes, on steroids. It’s important to note here that you don’t have to only eat sardines to do carnivore. Save that for if/when you hit a stall on the carnivore diet. Here’s what Kelly says about that on the YouTube page of the video above, “ZERO SARDINES ARE REQUIRED FOR ALL CARNIVORES. I hope I made this VERY clear in this video: There is no ONE perfect path to healing that will work for everyone. And just because someone heals by using something like Lion Diet, High-Fat Carnivore, salt-free Carnivore, water-fasting, or even sardines, it doesn’t mean that it will be YOUR answer. BUT…I do love sharing stories of people who have continued to search for answers by doing the hard things as needed for her OWN healing. Jane inspired me, and I hope you enjoy hearing her story.”

Dr. Boz has studied Jane’s story! Watch the video below to learn about the science behind the power of sardines, and whether or not it’s dangerous because of possible arsenic.

Thanks for such a great article! I’m Jane the crazy sardine lady. I really appreciated your addressing the spirit of why I chose to give this a go. I do plan on incorporating other carnivores foods starting on October 1st. I want to get labs drawn again especially the selenium and heavy metal labs. I love being my own N=1 experiment!!!

Wow, Jane, thanks for commenting! I’m so honored that you would comment. It’s interesting that right after I blogged the above, my husband developed PF. He’s been eating ketovore and isn’t overweight. We’ve talked about your story and it has created some questions I have for you.

      1. Do you think that the PF went away because you lost weight, and then came back because you gained weight, and then went away again because you lost weight?

      2. Do you think that there’s anything about the sardines that caused the PF to go away, or is just that it’s impossible for you to overeat sardines, and that that it was what has kept you from gaining weight so that’s why you lost the PF?

I appreciate your story so much!!!!! Hearing it made me realize that I too am addicted to volume of food. So that’s why it makes it hard for me to maintain after losing weight on carnivore and then ketovore. It’s so relieving to know that sardines can nourish me and help me get off the volume eating cycle.

I love your questions and have actually had the same questions when I was thinking about starting this whole sardine experiment.
Like I talked about in both interviews, I had been seen by a podiatrist and had cortisone shots and the works. I did not want to have surgery.
I believe losing weight definitely helped, but going on a sardine meal plan lowered my inflammation. Dr. Boz talks about the shin thumbprint. There should be no fluid there and my thumbprint lasted about 45 seconds. This indicated I was inflamed. I knew that getting in to ketosis and staying in ketosis would lower the inflammation. When you switch from using glucose as your fuel to using ketones, you lose a lot of fluid or inflammation. Glucose molecules hold onto a lot of water molecules and ketones don’t.
I am a coach for Dr. Boz’s 21 Day metabolic Kick class and had done 72 hour sardine fasts with great results and had actually done a 30 sardine fast before as well. My body responded very well. So I thought I’d try it again. That’s the background

I am sure the inflammation came back because I gained 20 lbs back and I was over eating. That in combination with over use of my foot from walking so much exacerbated the problem. I didn’t talk about other interventions I use because people already thought I was crazy. I now wear my Correct Toe, Toe separators all the time. Your husband should check out their website http://www.CorrectToes.com. They have great info. So in my case, losing weight, lowering inflammation ,resting my foot and wearing my toe separators with zero drop shoe with a wide toe box was the key to my success. I also think the high omega 3’s have helped too.

IRT your 2nd question sardines work for me because I definitely don’t want to over eat them and I have learned what satiation feels like. It really was a huge AHA moment for me when I realized one tin of sardines really did satisfy me and I didn’t need to eat 2 lbs of steak. So for that reason I decided to continue on while working on behavior modification.
in your husband’s case I would have him track his food for a week and see how many carbs he’s eating and what his macros are. To be on a ketogenic diet you need to make ketones otherwise you are just eating low carb. Have him try to get his total carbs to 20 grams. My macros have been 80:20. For me, higher fat makes me feel better. He would have to experiment.

my plan moving forward is to still eat sardines for breakfast and ease back into normal carnivore food. I will still keep my calories between 1500 and 1600. If I see my blood start going up. I’ll have 2 meals with sardines. I’ll be doing a lot of experimenting for sure!

Again, thanks for such a great blog!

Such an inspiring story of women’s health. It’s amazing to see how a sardine-only diet helped with healing and weight loss.
