a formal family Grand Ball at the
LDS Homeschool Conference!
My friends Thom and Tresta Neil and Amy and Von Hansen have created this conference to provide an opportunity for LDS homeschool parents and youth to gather together:
- to learn about ways to more fully integrate the gospel into our homeschooling pursuits.
- to help us feel connected with others who are doing the same.
- to be inspired, find hope and encourage one another.
We are not focusing on any one type of curriculum or methodology, as the gospel of Jesus Christ can be taught
in all things, at all times and in all places.
Please join us at the LDS Homeschool Conference
August 11th with a bonus evening session, Fathers panel and youth panel at 7 PM
and a full day of speakers on August 10th at American Heritage School,
736 N. 1100 E. American Fork, Utah.
Here are some of the great inspiring speakers. You can hear some of them before the conference on some conference calls that the conference people are doing before the conference. Every day at 1 PM Mountain Time they are doing interviews with some of the speakers. Go here to learn about the teleconference.
So even if you live far way, you can participate in the teleconference. If the speaker you were expecting doesn’t come up right away, be patient, the calls were done with two speakers in one hour call so the speaker you are expecting is probably 30 minutes into the call.
The keynote speaker is Jenet Jacob Erikson. Jenet is the fabulous daughter of a fabulous woman: LaDawn Jacob, a lady I have admired for a long time. I got to hear Jenet and LaDawn speak at a meeting for LDS homeschool moms when I was 8 months pregnant with baby #6. I still remember feeling the Spirit when Jenet said that in 1 Nephi 11, Nephi was shown the Virgin Mary when he asked what the tree of life means. He was shown this because the love of mothers is the closest thing to the love of God. It amazed me that she shared this because I had already had the same thoughts!
Jenet urged the mothers in attendance to never resist the holiness of their calling as a mother. She said that the refining process of mothering allows us to sacrifice our impurities.
She went on to say,
Become all you can to give your best self to motherhood. This is consecration. Elder David Bednar, an apostle of Jesus Christ, has said that the best application of consecration is motherhood. Mothers give themselves for the physical birth of their children. Christ gave himself for our spiritual rebirth. Both mothers’ and Christ’s bodies are permanently marked from this sacrifice. Motherhood is holy because children are so precious. Children will grow to teach us greater things than we know. Jesus said about a child, “Behold the kingdom of God.” As children grow, the effects of their mother echo around as children mingle with society. The nearest thing to the love of Christ for mankind is
