It’s been so enlightening for me to listen/watch this video by Jared Halverson about Job’s story. The images in this post are from the video.

If you want a full understanding of Job then please watch/listen and learn with the video below. I hope the quote above from Victor Hugo tells you why it’s important to study Job. Brother Halverson starts out the video talking about “theodicy” which he says is the problem of evil. Why does it exist if God exists? Why does God allow bad things to happen to good people?

(It’s funny, every time Brother Halverson said “theodicy” in the first few minutes of the video, I thought he was talking about “The Odyssey,” which has been on my mind with the new Odyssey movie, LOL.)

As Brother Halverson says, Job is the poster child for theodicy.

Brother Halverson says he knows a modern-day Job: his father-in-law. He lost his wife to leukemia after they had seven children, then one of his children, then his business, then his home, then his freedom, when he had to go to prison for something he didn’t do. Amazing!

Job came to know the intimate-ness and infinite-ness of God through his trials. These trials allowed him to know who God who truly is. If you want a summary of the video above, watch the one below.

It all boils down to the idea of proving. As it says in Abraham 3:25: “And we will prove them herewith, to see if they will do all things whatsoever the Lord their God shall command them.”

Can one taste, even eat, the bitterness of life without becoming bitter towards God? That’s what the proving involves. We each get to answer that question as we face the tests, traps and trials of mortal life. I pray that each of us will stay true to God in these challenges. He is there for each of us, I testify of that, in the name of Jesus Christ amen.
