She Heard a Voice

We dropped our daughter off at college last Friday! I will blog more about that later, but I wanted to share a spiritual happening that she heard of tonight at the fireside she attended at BYU-Idaho. I called my daughter to have a mentor meeting, just like I used to do when my son was off at college. We still had parent-child mentor meetings every week. I learned about doing that in the DeMilles’ Leadership Education: the Phases of Learning book. In our mentor meeting tonight, my daughter said that the speaker shared the following story. The speaker, a woman, said that a while ago, on a summer day, she heard a voice that said, “You are coasting. It’s time to stop coasting so you can prepare for the hard times ahead.” Then a few months after that the speaker’s toddler granddaughter drowned in a canal. The speaker heeded the voice and became more Christ-centered. That allowed her to get through the dark time of her granddaughter’s death.
