I got a little behind on posting these videos from the Agency-based Education Conference since I was gone to the Utah Eagle Forum convention on Saturday. Then I had my Monday duties of homeschooling and running errands and having FHE. I want to get back to posting one of these every day over the coming week. They are so good at motivating a mom or dad to homeschool and find alternatives to traditional jr. high and high school.

Here’s Celia Johnson, one of the founders of a charter high school, Paradigm High of South Jordan, Utah, that is based on TJED (Thomas Jefferson Education). She tells the fun story of a girl at the school who knew she had a gift to give the world, which was her mission in life. TJED very much focuses on preparing students to find out what their mission is and live it. A visitor came to the school, I think it was someone from the state accreditation committee, who talked to the girl. The girl said she had a gift to give the world and was excited to share it. Then she asked the man what his special gift was. He was so startled. He said that no one had ever asked him that. It’s so sad that the typical educational system in our society produces people who don’t know what their mission in life is. That’s one reason I choose to homeschool. But that’s not to say you can’t have a child who is public schooled who senses what his mission in life is. You just have to work hard to help them recognize it under all the stresses of compulsory education.

Are you all watching the OraWellness HealThy Mouth Summit videos everyday? The OraWellness people are posting three each day on their website for those who have registered.  I am watching some of the summit. It’s hard to catch all three hours everyday with my busy life of being homeschooling, chauffeuring and Dr. Mom. We’ve got two sickies here…which is fodder for another post.

Anyway, from what I’ve been able to catch, I am loving that every speaker refers to Dr. Weston A. Price’s work out of the ones I’ve listened to. I got this great idea: let’s share notes about what you we are learning since we are all moms and it’s hard for us all to catch all the videos. 

On Day Two of the Summit, Sarah Pope, of The Healthy Home Economist told the story of how she saved one of her teeth, a baby tooth that had never fallen out, from being pulled. Now I can’t remember what she said she did. Does anybody remember? She also shared what she did to heal the cavity that each of her son’s had. For one, it involved giving daily doses of high vitamin butter oil and fermented cod liver oil. For her other son, I think she said she did those two oils, plus she stopped giving him peanut butter, because peanut butter is high in phytic acid and she figured that’s why the tooth had a hole. Phytic acid blocks mineral absorption. To help it remineralize or fill in the hole he needed to stop taking peanut butter. She also gave him liver. She shared how to get a child to eat liver if he doesn’t like. She says you chop it up into little pieces and freeze it, and then have the child swallow the frozen pieces. Hmmm, I wonder if that would work with some of my picky children. 

I also learned about oil pulling. Basically, you take 1 tsp of coconut oil or other vegetable oil into your mouth without swallowing and swish it around for 20 min. Then spit it out into the garbage, not the sink. This will help remove bacteria and mucus from your mouth which are contributing to infection in your body.  Most, if not all, infections and diseases begin in the mouth.

I also learned that every tooth is attached to a meridian in your body, which connects to certain organs. If a certain organ is sick, it can affect that tooth and vice versa. Heal the tooth and you can heal the organ, according to one of the experts who presented.

On January 13, 2013, President Dieter F. Uchtdorf, Second Counselor in the First Presidency, will kick off the 2013 CES Devotional series, which will include five speakers throughout the year, from Brigham Young University.

The devotional will be broadcast at 6:00 p.m. mountain time, and live audio and video broadcasts will be available at mormonchannel.org in English and at cesdevotionals.lds.org in American Sign Language, English, French, Portuguese, and Spanish. The Church’s Facebook page will also include live English video of the devotionals, under the “Live Broadcast” tab.

The Utah Eagle Forum is hosting its annual convention this Saturday in Salt Lake City. Timothy Ballard, author of The Covenant will be the keynote speaker. This  excellent video, done by Jesse Fisher, tells the history of compulsion-based education in America. It explores the moral, economic, and political risks of putting children in compulsion-based schools. Most Americans, who revel in being from the “land of the free” don’t realize that their public schools aren’t based on freedom at all but compulsion. How did un-freedom-based schools get started here?  It all started with Frederick the Great of Prussia being mad about losing to Napoleon and listening to his advisor, philosopher Johann Gottlieb Fichte. Fichte claimed that schools must destroy free will and initiative so that soldiers would no longer think for themselves and question their superiors, thus causing a war for the Prussian emperor.  This is when the Prussian model of education was born.
